Epidermoid Cyst: How to Reach the Diagnosis and What is the Best Treatment Approach

Abstract

Epidermoid cysts are rare benign lesions of ectodermal origin in the oral cavity, most frequently affecting the submandibular and sublingual regions, and rarely involving the upper lip. This paper reports the case of a 17-year-old male patient presenting with a painless swelling in the left upper lip, excised under local anesthesia. The lesion displayed a well-defined capsule and keratinous content, consistent with an epidermoid cyst. Postoperative recovery was uneventful, and the patient has remained recurrence-free after seven years of follow-up. Early diagnosis and complete excision are essential for a favorable prognosis and prevention of recurrence.
